Commission honors Portland Police Bureau Canine Unit at Annual Luncheon

This year’s Annual Luncheon and NW Heroes Award presentation gathered hundreds of business and public safety leaders for a presentation by Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts and Clackamas Town Center General Manager Dennis Curtis on lessons learned during the mall shooting of 2012.

The Citizens Crime Commission also honored the Portland Police Bureau’s Canine Unit for their substantial contribution to making the community safe. Accepting the award on behalf of the unit was Officer Jeff Dorn and Officer Shawn Gore. Officer Dorn was shot and his canine partner Mick was killed when the two were in a shootout with burglary suspects on April 16 of this year. The Commission thanked both officers for their service and personal sacrifice.

The Crime Commission board took up a donation and awarded a check to the Canine Unit for $10,000 to help defray the costs of obtaining and training a new dog.
